The RESEPI GEN-II introduces significant upgrades over its predecessor by incorporating a full-fledged Inertial Navigation System (INS) from Inertial Labs, replacing the previous navigation stack. This advancement provides the ability to supply a comprehensive range of aiding data to the INS, greatly enhancing the system’s overall performance and reliability, particularly in challenging environments.
Inertial Labs has recognized a critical challenge associated with traditional Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions. Many current systems heavily rely on multi-constellation Global Navigation Satellite System (m-GNSS) solutions, which often fail to fully integrate alternative PNT sources such as inertial sensors, magnetometers, barometric data, machine vision, and alternative RF (Radio Frequency) signals. In the current era of electronic warfare, the threats posed by GNSS jamming and spoofing are more prevalent than ever, highlighting the need for a resilient, infrastructure-less alternative to traditional GNSS-based PNT systems.
This growing concern, particularly in defense and other high-stakes applications, has led to a focus on developing an alternative Position, Navigation, and Timing (alt-PNT) solution. Such a solution must be capable of continuously delivering accurate navigation information and synchronized timing, even during prolonged periods of GPS/GNSS outages. The RESEPI GEN-II directly addresses this need by leveraging Inertial Labs’ INS technology, which ensures that critical missions are not interrupted due to signal interference or loss.
Inertial Labs has adopted a modular systems-of-systems approach to complement this overarching challenge. By creating an ecosystem of diverse aiding data sources, they are able to exploit the capabilities of their proprietary Kalman filter. This advanced sensor fusion technology enables the system to seamlessly integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy and reliability even in the face of GNSS signal degradation, jamming, or spoofing.
The sensor fusion platform used in RESEPI GEN-II is optimized for modern computer vision and high-end GPU-based systems, allowing for advanced applications that require precise, uninterrupted navigation and timing. The INS on RESEPI GEN-II can be accessed using the two additional ports, which are described in the Understanding the Payload page. This solution ensures that RESEPI GEN-II remains at the forefront of modern mapping, surveying, and autonomous navigation, providing robust performance in even the most demanding environments.
